http://bmj.bmjjournals.com/aboutsite/subscriptions.shtml
""From 7 January 2005, bmj.com will introduce a limited charging structure for some of its content. The resulting revenue will help cover the website's current costs and allow us to fund further developments. In keeping with our commitment to open access, BMJ have devised a subscription model that allows for as much free content as possible.
Original research articles will remain completely free to access, the full text of all other articles (including Editorials, Reviews and Letters etc) will be free for the first week of publication and then under access controls for the next 51 weeks. After one year, access controls will be lifted and all content will once again be free.
Abstracts and extract views of all articles will remain completely free. Other website content and functions will also not be under access controls at any time. These include the search page, email alerts, rapid responses, Q&A, Medscape conferences, and UK health news.

OmniMedicalSearch.com

OmniMedicalSearch.com is a metasearch engine. It does not operate the same way as search engines like Google or Yahoo. Instead of assembling our own database of websites to present our search results, we return the search results from other search engines in various combinations. When you submit a search term, our metasearch software sends that query, simultaneously, to other search engines, websites and databases. When it returns, you are presented with the top results of ALL the search engines and databases you selected.

That's how a metasearch engine works. And unlike generalized, commercially focused metasearch engines, OmniMedicalSearch.com DOES NOT include results from Pay Per Click, profit driven search engines.

Our metasearch engine is designed to search 25 different sources in 3 different categories so you can find everything you need from one convenient website. Each database we query is unbiased and non-commercial in nature and an established authority for delivering responsible medical information.

Medical Search Engines: With OmniMedicalSearch.com, you can search up to 12 different medical search engines. To help make this function more suitable to various types of users, we've created five different custom search options.

Journal of Clinical Investigation backfiles added to PubMedCentral

The following backfiles have been added to PubMedCentral for the Journal of Clinical Investigation.

v.1 (1924)-v.32(1953), v.35 (1956), v.38 (1959)-v.71 (1953:June),v.72:no.4 (1983:October)-v.96(1995), v.107 (2001)-v.112 (2003)

PubMed Central is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature, developed and managed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). With PubMed Central, NLM is taking the lead in preserving and maintaining unrestricted access to the electronic literature, just as it has done for decades with the printed biomedical literature. PubMed Central aims to fill the role of a world class library in the digital age. It is not a journal publisher. NLM believes that giving all users free and unrestricted access to the material in PubMed Central is the best way to ensure the durability and utility of the archive as technology changes over time.

Web of Science

Web of Science has a whole new look -- redesigned screens are everywhere. Take a look and make use of the online tutorials.

OCLC FirstSearch service enhanced

The OCLC FirstSearch service now includes functionality that allows for
links back to every configured web based catalog from the FirstSearch
"libraries that own item" page. If your institution has links from
FirstSearch back to its web based local catalog configured in the
FirstSearch administrative module, your local catalog will be available to
every FirstSearch user as a hotlink from this page within the FirstSearch
service.

Previously, users only had the ability to search the catalog of the
institution with which their FirstSearch account was associated. With this
enhancement, users are now able to search the catalog of many institutions
that hold the item for which they searched, allowing easy access to local
information such as call number, item location and shelf status.

BioMedNet update

We would like to confirm that BioMedNet will close on 30 June 2004. We hope you have enjoyed the services and content we have brought you over the course of the last 9 years.
Below you will find details of some of our replacement services so that you may continue to access Elsevier's high quality life research content. For a full list of all the changes click here.

Your access to full text research
All full text research from 1900 Elsevier journals is now provided exclusively by ScienceDirect, the world's largest database of peer-reviewed research.
Containing over 5.8 million articles, and renowned for its reliability, the ScienceDirect environment also links to non-Elsevier content through CrossRef and MEDLINE providing access to a wider scope of information than you had previously enjoyed on BioMedNet.
If you currently have full text access to journal content on BioMedNet you can continue to access this on ScienceDirect without any interruption:

If your institute subscribes to BioMedNet Reviews, further information on accessing review articles in ScienceDirect is available here.

If you have a personal subscription to one of the Trends or Current Opinion titles or Drug Discovery Today you can find out more about your new point of access here.

Those institutes with paid subscriptions to the MKMD database will still be able to access it on a new platform after 30 June. More information will be sent to you closer to the time.

Further information about these specific changes is being sent to subscribers separately.

Your Table Of Contents Alerts
In order to avoid any loss of service please re-register for your Table Of Content alerts on ScienceDirect. Additional TOC alerts for over 1500 other products are also available.

More information about what is happening to other BioMedNet alert services is available here.

Your Personal Data
Where available, we will continue to provide all other e-mail alerts specified in your personal profile. This ensures you will continue to receive your requested information regarding unique offers and information about Elsevier Life Science products and services after June 30.
For more information about your personal registration data on BioMedNet please click here. You can amend your current alert preferences here.

However, if you wish to unsubscribe from any further alerts registered through BioMedNet after June 30 please click here.

And Finally
We look forward to continuing our relationship with you through our other services. However, we would like to thank you all for your support over the past 9 years and for making BioMedNet such an enjoyable and challenging site to work on and wish you all the best.

OCLC Open WorldCat Project

Yahoo! Search Joins OCLC Open WorldCat Project
by Barbara Quint , Information Today
Information Today, July 6, 2004
http://www.infotoday.com/newsbreaks/nb040706-2.shtml
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OCLC (http://www.oclc.org) has expanded its online library locator service for books to Yahoo! Search. Last October, I reported on a new pilot project between OCLC and Google that opened library holdings information for just under 2 million items in the WorldCat union catalog (extracted from the 55 million items with over 900 million holdings recorded; see http://www.infotoday.com/newsbreaks/nb031027-2.shtml). In January 2004, Yahoo! approached OCLC to arrange access to Open WorldCat records under Yahoo!’s new Content Acquisition Program. (For a description of that program, see http://www.infotoday.com/newsbreaks/nb040308-1.shtml.) While Google took months to spider all the OCLC data, Yahoo! moved very quickly. The agreement was signed May 21; content first appeared on Yahoo! Search May 28; and full crawling and loading of the 1,993,073 set was completed June 6. Overall, OCLC seems to consider the Open WorldCat project a wonderful success and plans to expand it.
