Understanding the architectures of multiprotein complexes is a central problem in biology. Of the many chemical methods available, label transfer and cross-linking are becoming more popular. Recently, label transfer has been applied to very large protein complexes with great success, and new oxidative methods for protein cross-linking have been developed that are fast and highly efficient. Advances in these techniques should increase the understanding of biological structures and mec
hanisms.
