Tristana Reader 4.0 : pull content directly from the web to your desktop using those orange RSS and XML feed buttons

13. Tristana Reader 4.0
http://www.tristana.org/

Now that more and more websites offer a variety of dynamic materials (such
as podcasts and the like), it is increasingly more common to feel a bit
overwhelmed by the sheer volume of material on the Web. More discerning
users will appreciate Tristana Reader 4.0, which will allow them pull
content directly from the Web to their desktops. The application also allows
users the ability to set preferences so that they will be alerted to content
changes at any given site. The program is also spam-proof, which will be a
welcome relief to many. This version of Tristana Reader is compatible with
Windows 98 or newer. [KMG]

Direct to desktop content
Tristana is a free download (does not contain adware or spyware) which allows you to pull content directly from the Web onto your desktop without email.
Simply click and drag those orange feed icons or links (RSS or Atom) to Tristana to view news, blogs, podcasts and online content in real-time.

Now iPod friendly!

With our latest podcasting release, now you can search and download music and media files while you sleep and even synch with your iPod!
We've added a Downloads Manager to schedule and download up to five files to your desktop at once.
SPAM-proof your desktop
Quickly add, manage or remove content or media files onto your desktop in real-time
without having to provide an email address or share any personal information.

Reduce information overload
Consolidate web content more efficiently than your browser, manage information more easily than with email.
Tristana provides the ability to view RSS or Atom feeds in real-time on your desktop.
You can subscribe or unsubscribe to content on your terms, without risk of SPAM, privacy or security issues associated with email.

How does it work?
Tristana uses RSS and Atom which are standard XML formats for instantly receiving syndicated content over the Internet.
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication" or "Rich Site Summary" or even "Really Stops Spam", depending on who you talk to.
Atom is a widely recognized open-source XML format for content syndication.
Basically both are really just highly efficient standardized formats for reading, managing and sharing timely information across the web.

MDConsult and remote access

MDConsult is having some specific remote access issues,
depending upon the proxy service you attempt to use.
EZProxy requires you to put in your barcode only once.
The home alone proxy requires you to put in your barcode twice.

EZProxy

MDconsult is working with remote access using all browsers (IE, Netscape,Firefox,Safari) and Ezproxy,
using the LYMAN online catalog links and database page links and on the library home page.
EZProxy requires you to put in your barcode only once.

Old Home Alone Proxy

Remote access for MDConsult is not working at all for the old home alone proxy,
on any browser, from the database page, LYMAN online catalog, or home page link.
The home alone proxy requires you to put in your barcode twice after setting the home alone url within your browser.

This is done through your My NCBI account. Simply log into your account, click on the My NCBI link, and then, on the blue sidebar, click on "Preferences."

In User Preferences, you'll see the option for turning on the highlighting and selecting the color you'd like the highlighting to be (yellow, green, plum, or aqua).

Simply select the color option you'd like and then say OK.

The highlighting will be active whenever you search PubMed through your My NCBI account.

Read more about this in the NLM Technical Bulletin at http://www.nlm.nih.gov/pubs/techbull/mj05/mj05_highlight.html

New open access journal added to LYMAN online catalog

New open access journal added to LYMAN online catalog :
Ostomy/Wound Management

http://www.o-wm.com/owm/

Publisher: HMP Communications

Content available free online -- from v.47:no.11 (2001:Nov)-
Current Issue: v.51:no.6 (2005:June)

Ostomy/Wound Management was founded in March of 1980 as "Ostomy Management."
In 1985, this small journal dramatically expanded its content and readership
by embracing the overlapping disciplines of ostomy care, wound care,
incontinence care, and related skin and nutritional issues and became the
premier journal of its kind. Ostomy/Wound Management's readers include
healthcare professionals from multiple disciplines.
Today, readers benefit from contemporary and comprehensive review and
research papers that are practical, clinically oriented, and cutting edge.
Each published article undergoes a rigorous double-blind peer review by
members of both the Editorial Advisory Board and the Ad-Hoc Peer Review
Panel.

The Ostomy/Wound Management Editorial Philosophy encompasses the following:
a) to advance the science and art of skin, wound, ostomy, and incontinence
care;
b) help authors clearly express and share their findings and ideas;
c) improve the quality of patient care and protect the public by monitoring
the scientific integrity of information published in Ostomy/Wound
Management.
