ticTOCs makes it easy to keep up with STM journal content
ticTOCs makes it easy to keep up with STM journal content
www.tictocs.ac.uk
What service allows you to select from thousands of STM journal titles and tick the ones you’re interested in, so you can receive from one source freely available tables of contents from your favorite journals? The answer is ticTOCs — Journal Tables of Contents Service, which provides TOCs from about half the currently published STM journals.
By providing access to the most recent TOCs of over 11,000 scholarly journals from more than 400 publishers, including Elsevier, ticTOCs helps users stay current with the most recent issues of journals covering a wide range of subjects.
Using ticTOCs, you can:
* Find journals of interest by title, subject or publisher,
* View the latest TOCs,
* Link through (where institutional or personal subscriptions, or open access, allow) to the fulltext of over 250,000 articles, and
* Save selected journals to MyTOCs so you can view future TOCs.
The ticTOCs service aggregates TOC RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds produced by journal publishers. The content of the TOCs displayed within ticTOCs depends on the information contained in the publishers’ RSS feeds. RSS feeds exported via ticTOCs are the publishers’ own feeds. Using ticTOCs, you can export selected TOC RSS feeds to popular readers such as Google Reader and Bloglines, and import article citations into RefWorks (where institutional or personal subscriptions allow).
ticTOCs' links to articles are to the fulltext or landing pages on publishers’ websites. Besides Elsevier journals, ticTOCs' content covers journals from Cambridge University Press, Emerald, IEEE, John Wiley and Sons, Inderscience Publishers, Informa (Taylor and Francis), Institute of Physics, Nature Publishing Group, Oxford University Press, Sage Publications, Springer-Verlag, Wolters Kluwer and over 400 other publishers.
The JISC Users & Innovations Programme has funded ticTOCs. The service has been developed by an international consortium, headed by the University of Liverpool Library and also including CrossRef, Cranfield University, DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals), Emerald, Heriot-Watt University, Inderscience Publishers, Institute of Physics, Intute, MIMAS, Open J-Gate, ProQuest, RefWorks and SAGE Publishers. end of article

Scopus completes extensive archive project
Scopus completes extensive archive project - backfilling 2,450 journals to Volume 1, Issue 1
In January 2007 Scopus announced an agreement with major publishers and societies to add their archives. Scopus has now loaded complete archives for over 2,450 Journals from several publishers back to 1823, Volume 1, Issue 1. With the addition of the archives the pre-1996 material has grown from 15 million records to 18 million records.
In 2007 and 2008, abstracts from complete archives have been added from: Springer/Kluwer, American Physical Society (APS), American Institute of Physics (AIP), Institute of Physics (IoP), Royal Chemical Society (RCS). In addition: The full archive of the journals Nature and Science have now been completed and includes first record of "The Lancet" in 1823.
By adding the archives a wide variety of users will be able to retrieve more results when searching in Scopus. One example is the famous paper of Einstein, Podolsky and Rosen, who in 1935 introduced a thought experiment challenging long-held ideas about the relation between the observed values of physical quantities and the values that can be accounted for by a physical theory. What became known as the EPR paradox (after the last names of the authors), is still being cited in Scopus - so far over 2,600 times.

Project MUSE launches new web interface; enhanced features aid discovery and navigation
Project MUSE launches new web interface; enhanced features aid discovery and navigation
Project MUSE is pleased to announce the release of a new web interface, enhanced with many features to aid ease of navigation, expand discovery, and encourage deeper interaction with the wealth of scholarly content offered by MUSE.
Online now at http://muse.jhu.edu, the new site design offers several new tools and resources for scholars, librarians, and publishers. MUSE offers full text access to current content from nearly 400 high quality journals in the humanities and social sciences, from some 100 not-for-profit publishers, and the web site’s improved features will help users find, utilize and share this content more readily and efficiently.
A highlight of MUSE’s new web site is wider range of functionality at the individual journal article level, including the ability to email a link, find more articles from the same author(s), and share the article via popular social bookmarking services. Color indicators allow users to easily determine to which content they have full text access, at both the journal and article level.
Improved navigation in the site’s informational pages makes it easier for researchers, librarians, and publishers to access tools such as training guides, usage statistics, journal holdings information, and technical documentation. A new search feature also offers the ability to search only the informational pages, to quickly locate key details such as pricing, upcoming journal additions, or supported technologies. An entirely new section is dedicated to information for current and prospective publishers of journals in MUSE.
Additional features are planned to further enhance the new web interface. During the fall and winter, users will begin to see reference linking and a “Related Articles”list at the journal article level, and a new cover sheet with functionality comparable to the HTML articles will be added to the PDF versions.
Titles of specific interest for the UCONN Health Center community include :
American Annals of the Deaf
(Vol. 148 (2003) through current issue)
American Journal of Bioethics
(Vol. 1 (2001) - vol. 4, no. 2 (2004); archive only)
Bulletin of the History of Medicine
(Vol. 70 (1996) through current issue)
Canadian Journal on Aging
(Vol. 23 (2004) through current issue)
Hastings Center Report
(Vol. 35 (2005) through current issue)
Human Biology
(Vol. 73 (2001) through current issue)
Journal of Health Care for the Poor and Underserved
(Vol. 15 (2004) through current issue)
Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law
(Vol. 24, nos. 4-5 (1999); Vol. 25 (2000) - vol. 29 (2004); archive only)

During the fall and winter, users will begin to see reference linking and a “Related Articles”list at the journal article level, and a new cover sheet with functionality comparable to the HTML articles will be added to the PDF versions.

Transfer of journal content from Blackwell Synergy to Wiley InterScience
Transfer of journal content from Blackwell Synergy to Wiley InterScience from June 30th 2008.
http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/aboutus/wiley-blackwell/transition_end-users.html
From June 30th 2008 the journal content currently available on Blackwell Synergy www.blackwellsynergy.com will be delivered through Wiley InterScience www.interscience.wiley.com due to the merger of Wiley-Blackwell's online journal systems.
This is a first step in the development of a next generation online publishing platform, arriving early 2009, which will deliver Wiley-Blackwell journals, online books, reference works, databases, protocols and other electronic resources through one integrated service.
The benefits will begin immediately after June 30th:
* One-stop access to a dramatically expanded range of relevant material
* approximately 3 million articles
* 1400 journals
* 5000 online books, reference works and databases
Information for Registered Users of Blackwell Synergy
* No action is necessary — all active accounts* will be migrated automatically. If you already have a Wiley InterScience account your information will be combined. You may be requested to accept new terms and conditions the first time you log in after June 30th.
* Blackwell Synergy will close at the end of June 27th. During the transition weekend of June 28th and 29th Wiley InterScience will be unavailable for a period. Look out for notes on this website nearer the time for more details.
* Any pages you have bookmarked in Blackwell Synergy will be redirected to the relevant page on Wiley InterScience from June 30th
* Access to articles and most functions will continue uninterrupted, although you will notice small differences in design and terminology. For a short period between 13 June - 1 July it will not be possible to register for new table of contents email alerts or save searches.

New Feature on Scopus :
Scopus is now providing a feature called -- Scopus Journal Analyzer.
http://info.scopus.com/journalanalyzer/
The Scopus Journal Analyzer allows you to select up to 10 journals in a specific field. The results are uploaded into graphs, making it easy to see how journals are performing relative to each other. The data displayed can also be limited to a shorter time period than the default from 1996 to the present.
